My Year In Deleted Instagram Pictures
The Art
“2024 marked my personal best in censored Instagram content, with me amassing an impressive 29 removals across both my main and backup accounts. As a performance artist who relies on social media to enable interactive participation, its near impossible to ignore the ever-tightening noose of the ambiguous content restrictions and increasingly draconian moderation policies.
This book is as much an archive as it is a protest. When Musk inevitably falls out with Trump and deletes the internet to spite his suspiciously human-like face, I want to be able to look back at the moments in my history when unregulated regulations were in place. And with any luck, I’ll sigh, exhaling a sentimental “look how far we’ve come” followed up by a “you don’t know how good you have it nowadays” uttered to my grandchildren, who are busy fighting over the last morsels of food and actively on fire.
I’ll be honest, it’s not all nipple— but if you do happen to have a soft spot for, well, soft spots, you came to the right place.” — Harriet Richardson
